Hi All
Most of you missed a great day of comraderie amongst Pilots from all over South Africa
The Navigational exercise was also a learning curve
We all met at the Wings Club at 6pm for briefings and a Braai
The following morning the airfield was a hive of activity with everyone trying to organise themselves
in a blistery Southerly up to 30 knot wind
Briefings and course details were given over Breakfast in the Restaurant then it was heads down and go for it
While going over preparations the CAA heavies made there appearance known to most of us,
it was nice to see someone from CAA face to face and good humoured
Athol Franz was traipsing around with his camera and new wife to be ( much nicer than Athol )
The first aircraft took off at 9.30 then at 5min intervals and with the strong tail wind
we all had to circle off the coast before our start time
The task area was very confined inland between Newset Beach and Zinkwazi
with a flight time of under 1.5 hours
We had 9 check points after start and finish at Tongart River Mouth with many
En route Photos to recognise and mark on the map in between
The cockpit was a very busy area not helped by the winds
On arrival back at the Airfield we had a spot landing exercise
Then Everyone secured their aircraft and retired to the Wings Club for debriefings in a jovial atmoshere
Prize giving and a Draw took place
The Winner was our very own Mervin Roberts in his faithfull Yellow RV
It would have been nice to see more Locals flying
A Preggo Roll and snacks were provided by the ( GREAT ) Wings Club as Was the Braai the evening before
On Behalf of all EAA members who participated I'd like to thank The Competition directors,
Frank Eckard and Mary de Klerk along with Safety Officer Fred Bebington
Plus all the others who helped make Saturday a success
They all did a marvelous job and we would like to see them again next year
cheers
Alan Lentle
